Liza Morton was born in Essex and now a resident in Kingswood, Surrey with her husband and two children. Following a Foundation Course at Thurrock Technical College she went on to study Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics at Brighton University culminating in her degree show in 1994.

Liza went on to complete a PGCE course in secondary education and moved to the London Borough of Richmond to teach Technology and Art. With outstanding results from her students Liza progressed to Head of Art in 2001. She moved on to lead a larger Art Department in Merton before accepting the post of Head of Art at a prestigious independent school in Surrey. Her education work also includes working with other artists in Mosaic, Paper Mache, Creative Photography, Pinhole Photography, Murals, Set Design and Prop design, Life Drawing, Primary Education Painting, Clay and Sculpture workshops.

Different themes of work have developed over the years and her life experiences of adopting two boys have inspired her to create artwork that young people can also enjoy. She thinks carefully about things that can go into children’s rooms. She uses lightweight canvas and lots of twinkly objects in her work. She wanted to create eye catching pieces that glimmer and catch people’s imagination.
The following themes have developed over the years: Boys Toys, Flora and Fauna, Fairies, Hearts, Animals, Landscapes and Magical Visions. She has also developed a very individual series of works called “Precious Memories” which are on a commission basis only (five of which have been created). She has received several commissions for her Visions and Large Floral paintings over the years.
A growing passion for photography and travelling around the UK has influenced her more adult pieces. She has also started to develop the use of oil paint in her work.

Her major pieces are created individually, she finds it important that her work is individual and not mass produced. There are currently no prints of Liza’s work available for sale.

Techniques
Liza has developed the use of texture in her art. She uses various materials to build up layers in her work. She likens herself to a magpie as she seeks out different and unusual materials to add to her designs. She also likes to discover vintage jewellery or broken vintage beads to incorporate in her work.
